500 Million Friends

by Dean Wilson

David Fincher, the director of Se7en, Fight Club and  Zodiac, follows up The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with a film about FacebookThe Social Network will open the New York Film Festival on September 24, 2010. Based on a book from 2009 by Ben Mezrich, the movie will be released in October 2010. Jesse Eisenberg plays the ubiquitous Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the lead role, and Justin Timberlake plays the co-founder of Napster and former Facebook president, Sean Parker (we assume there is no irony intended by the casting). This movie sounds like a pirate’s dream come true and will no doubt spawn many offspring in our current era of transmedia storytelling. Image: Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures.

  2. the teaser trailers are unusual … visually minimal, nothing but text and enlarged pixels … the audio is complex, a conference call using facebook …
