Pusan AFA 2009
by Dean
After some nervous hours dealing with air traffic in Danang last week, My Dung from K3 arrived safely in Pusan for the 2009 Asian Film Academy. It’s a wonderful opportunity, and we’re very proud of her. Image: Vu Quynh Ha
This year, the head of AFA is Japanese director Kurosawa Kiyoshi, whose feature film Tokyo Sonata won the 2008 Cannes Festival‘s Jury Prize (Un Certain Regard). Kurosawa attended the Sundance Institute in 1993 and later became famous for his special horror pictures.
Also part of the 2009 AFA leadership is Iranian cameraman Mahmoud Kalari, who is credited as the cinematographer for more than 40 feature films. Kalari became well known internationally after filming for two contemporary giants of Iranian cinema: Mohsen Makhmalbaf (Moments of Innocence – 1996), and Abbas Kiarostami (The Wind Will Carry Us – 1999).
Twenty-four fellows from 16 countries were accepted to the AFA this year. During the two-week seminar they will make two short films together. Previous Vietnamese fellows include: Tran Hoai Nam (2005), Tran Tuan Anh (2006), Nguyen An Huy (2007).
Oa, chúc mừng chị Mỹ Dung nhé. Chị nhớ chụp nhiều nhiều ảnh để share với bà con K3 và Dự án bên này về đất nước Hàn Quốc xinh đẹp (và diễn viên đẹp nữa).
